Plant Portraits
Several years ago, in 2013, I developed the idea for this painting series. I was new to Atlanta’s local food scene and eager to learn. I wanted to explore the disconnect between producers and consumers of food. However, life isn’t linear, and other opportunities took priority over painting. In the meantime, I’ve gotten to know a lot of farmers and food purveyors and chefs; and I’ve learned a lot about food and farming. But the more I learn, the more I realize that I don’t know. So, once again I’ve circled around to this painting series as both a personal journey and a platform for educating others about how food (and other things) grow.
Follow along on my blog and Instagram (@kenanpaintsthings) for the stories behind the farms, the plants, and the paintings. I hope you and I both learn a few things.
